Purpose

Purposes:

The purpose of Japan Global Dialogue (JGD) is to facilitate dialogues between stakeholders around the world to address global challenges, including military conflicts, global warming, droughts, and pandemics.

JGD especially focuses on facilitating dialogue between parties to military conflicts so that conflicting parties will find their solutions through dialogue and negotiation across the globe. JGD hopes to address calamities of wars, utilizing the position of Japan as a peaceful country that has not engaged in any military combat activities since the end of World War II.

JGD has three main objectives and activities:

• 1. It facilitates dialogues between different stakeholders and conflicting parties in conflicted states and regions so that these parties will find solutions to end wars and to create sustainable peace. The dialogues include both in-person and virtual meetings by various stakeholders in a confidential manner. The facilitation of these dialogues will support both mediation during armed conflicts and post-conflict peacebuilding in direct ways.  
• 2. It provides opportunities for students, citizens, government officials, experts, NGOs and international organizations to gather, discuss, and learn how to end military conflicts and create sustainable peace, by hosting public workshops, seminars, and symposiums. 
• 3. It shares information about useful reports/documents and public events on mediation during armed conflicts and post-conflict peacebuilding, via its website and social networks; its members can have access to broader opportunities and information to learn how to end wars and create sustainable peace.  

Since the end of World War II, Japan has actively supported developing countries, especially in the Middle East, Africa, South America, and South East Asia; it has assisted these fragile states by constructing infrastructures, building national institutions, developing human capacities, with a hope of expanding peace. Utilizing these experiences of Japan in enhancing peace, self-reliance, and stability, Japan Global Dialogue will implement its activities to contribute to ending wars and creating sustainable peace on the global stage.
